Silver halide paper exposed to light pollution from flaring and other sources of industrial photon emissions contaminating the night sky reveal a landscape that has bore witness to a sociopolitical and corporate siege rendering it inhabitable. During development, photosensitive paper continues to absorb the information encoded in the land through chemical reactions with phenols extracted from rosehips growing in the valley and precipitation that has potentially been exposed to gasses released from nearby plants.
The Exposure Process
Using a light meter to determine the intensity of light being emitted from a nearby flare, an exposure time is calculated before a protective cover is removed to expose photosensitive paper to the light pollution of Chemical Valley. Plants are used to offset light exposure and reveal patterns that highlight the resilience of nature.
